Stay Safe This Christmas: RNLI’s Tips for Festive Swimmers

Winter sea swimming presents unique challenges. Cold water shock, unpredictable tides, and the increased risk of hypothermia can turn an exhilarating dip into a dangerous situation.

This time of year also sees heightened alcohol consumption, which impairs judgment and reduces the body's ability to cope with extreme temperatures. Many participants may not be seasoned swimmers, further elevating the risks.

Know What to Do in an Emergency: If you get into trouble, remember the RNLI's "FLOAT" message: Lean back, extend your arms and legs, and try to control your breathing until help arrives.
